3. CBMM Niobium Pentoxide (Nb2O5) Market Analysis
3.1 CBMM Business Overview
CBMM is a Brazilian company that specializes in the processing and technology of niobium, extracted from its pyrochlore mine near the city of Araxá, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. The company was founded in 1955. They have become the global leader in the production and commercialization of Niobium products, serving more than 400 customers in over 40 countries.
3.2 Niobium Pentoxide (Nb2O5) Product Portfolio
Araxa pyrochlore is processed and converted by CBMM into five distinct products: Standard-grade ferro-niobium, Vacuum-grade ferro-niobium and Nickel-niobium, High-purily niobium oxide and Optical- grade niobium oxide. Standard-grade ferro-niobium is used as an alloying element in steelmaking, mainly in HSLA steels for oil and gas pipelines, structural steel, offshore diling platforms, rebar, rails and automotive applications. Vacuum-grade master-alloys are used in the production of superalloys and highalloy steels, most importantly for turbine engines. Niobium oxide is the primary material for making vacuum grade alloys, also for producing pure niobium metal and its refractory and superconducting alloys. Exceptionally pure oxide is needed for niobium’ s emerging optical and electronic uses.
3.3 CBMM Niobium Pentoxide (Nb2O5) Market Performance
From 2018 to 2023, CBMM has shown a steady growth trend in the production volume, revenue, price and gross profit margin of niobium pentoxide (Nb2O5). In 2018, CBMM’s production volume was 4351.5 tons, which increased to 5413.0 tons in 2023, showing the expansion of its production capacity. During the same period, CBMM’s price of niobium pentoxide increased from US$34/kg to US$44/kg. In terms of revenue, CBMM increased from US$148.52 million in 2018 to US$236.90 million in 2023, indicating its leading position in the market. CBMM’s gross profit margin was 28.44% in 2018, which slightly increased to 28.69% in 2023, showing its stability in cost control and profitability. Overall, CBMM has shown strong growth and a stable market position in production, revenue and profitability in the niobium pentoxide market.
